Update here: I'm happy to report that there were some major fines associated with Avast spyware:
The company pulled one of those switcheroo things like Meta did where they created a parent company to dump all the bad PR attached to the old company. Needless to say I recommend against using any and all software from Gen Digital, Piriform, Avast, AVG, CCleaner, etc. and related products.
