Portable Freeware Submission • Re: MultiPar - file verification and redundancy

I'm a little late to report this but a Multipar beta was updated with some very nice changes including GPU usage. Based on what I understand about this process, that could result in real performance gains, assuming the disk is fast enough to keep up: https://github.com/Yutaka-Sawada/MultiPar/releases

On a semi-related note, I still don't have a good answer to the question of how large your recovery archive should be, but this listing from WinRAR's recovery feature is instructive:

"When you compress data, for example music files, into .rar files, you can choose to add the “Recovery Record” to the .rar archive. You can choose a value from 1 to 10 percent."

https://www.win-rar.com/recovery-record.html?&L=0

Since this uses the same Reed-Solomon codes, it's reasonable to assume they have a similar baseline. Therefore I'd say for standard backups, it's very reasonable to create PAR archives that's 10% of the original.
