More details are needed. Did you use an absolute folder? Are you sure they use this specific environmental variable?
Maybe they use a combination of %SystemDrive%%HOMEPATH% or %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% instead or a whole other alternative to environmental variables (see this discussion how, for example, Unity takes its folders from Windows API instead of environmental variables).
